the journey of the hemisphere

Edward Albert “Al” Harpham began his oddesy in 2015 with no experience with concrete and only conventional information he could find from local concrete distributors and the internet. With this information he was able to make hemispheres conventionally with thick walls. His quest was to make them thin and strong. After much trial and error, he finally achieved his goal and is one of the few in the world who is able to accomplish casting concrete in this form. The spherical shape of the hemisphere is not flattened at the bottom, giving each piece a silhouette of geometrical purity which is subtle yet distinct in shape. Karen Clark’s love for color transformed the hemisphere line. As a lifelong, dedicated student of color theory, she began experimenting with concrete pigments and dyes to develop original colors that are unique and proprietary to Edward Albert Design.

mixed medium

Another facet to Edward Albert Design is the passion of working with mixed medium and sustainable design. When Al began working with a local wood supplier, he began to develop products for the home and special events. Edward Albert Design products can be used for a wide range of applications and installations. The Hemisphere line, is designed and hand-crafted in our 7,400 square foot design studio located in the south industrial area of Fresno, California.
